You can preserve needed environment variables with the setenv flag. Note, you likely had to do this with sudo as well, by setting a Defaults env_keep += line in your sudoers config.

Replacing sudo & pkexec with run0, experiments and issues

If so, perhaps, as at least a developer, one can’t guarantee it’ll always be configured as it should be, by default. Would be nice if SystemD could improve this.
