I do not run out of ram often, is what I do. I have 64gb, i think 4 is just reserved for igpu or smth, I should look into that one maybe.
I’m mostly just a normal computer user, i browse the web and play video games and found myself coming up short with 32gb ram occasionally, so i upgraded to 64gb to handle that problem. I’ve only managed to run out once since. I don’t remember quite how i managed, but I did somehow.
Even right now, just idling, not doing anything special my pc is using 15GB of RAM, just sitting there doing fanny adams, most of that is going to 2 browser instances I have open probably. You can see how if I wanted to run some of the more intense games on top I might have problems, they don’t exactly make ‘em memory efficient anymore.
I also do other stuff tho like game development, occasional artistic stuff, that can use quite a bit of ram too I suppose.
My workstation has 64GB of RAM and for general tasks, RAM is never going to be an issue.
However, maxing out its usage with more specialised tasks is not hard these days. Play around with running LLM’s locally and you’ll quickly discover 64GB of RAM is small fries. Some of those models need up to 1TB of RAM to run at full potential (eg: Qwen3-Coder-480B). Here in lies one of the main reasons RAM prices are silly at the moment.
ANYWAY, now for the real reason we’re all here ![]()
I actually prefer USB-A format, it is much sturdier, every time I connect smth to my laptop with type-c it just doesnt look like it is there all the way, so it weebles a bit and Im afraid that I would break smth, haha. Never have had such thoughts while using usb-a
Why is OpenBSD in Schizo? I was going to take it for a spin.
And Gentoo is in 2 spots, “Chad” and “Schizo”? ![]()
A dedicated graphic card? That’s an overkill!
How’d they get a picture of my computer?
22 120mm fans. If you go for NF-A12x25 G2 PWM than thats like 770€ just in fans ![]()
It was still cheaper than Ram
