I have a hp Photosmart C4480. It can’t be detected neither by simple scan or xsane. The thing is that it worked fine when I used Ubuntu based systems.
I would guess I would have to download the drivers or something.
Permission tricks can be involved… but the first thing is to see if it is detected by the system - by lsusb if connected by usb, for instance.
