Rygel DLNA server with Firewalld not connecting to Roku

Hello all! I can’t for the life of me figure out the trick how to get Rygel to work on my GNOME system through Firewalld, in order to connect to my Roku in the other room. I’ve spent literal hours working on this and am really frustrated :enraged_face:

I went through this posting and still no luck:

I’m done with this crap for today but I’m hoping someone in the community can provide some assistance. Thank you for reading.

perhaps this might help:

Still not getting it @Pudge… maybe Rygel is the problem and I should go with minidlna instead? No idea what I’m doing wrong :confused:

I have used minidlna on my LAN servers for years with little to no problems.
I have never heard of Rygel, and after your posts I think I will give it a go and
see which I like better. Now to find the time.

I was easily able to connect my Raspberry Pi 4b headless LAN server to my Roku Ultra
using minidlna.

I then created a totally new LAN server on a RPi 5 on which I installed Rygel.
So far I have not been able to get Rygel working. First I cannot enable Rygel in systemctl, it says rygel does not exist. Then the /etc/rygel.config file was not easy to understand.

At this point, rygel is a no-go, but I have not had a lot of time to mess with it.

Thank you for your help! I’ve actually have had some success with minidlna now but more tinkering and testing to do, so I may be back in touch if I need more assistance

The biggest challenge I had was that I’m connecting to my home folder and had to create an override.conf and add my username as a user and group and also adjust minidlna.conf accordingly

Progress at least finally :grin:
