Today’s Question of the Day:

What’s the most bizarre thing that you’ve ever eaten?

Chocolate covered insects (bees, crickets, ants)

What’s the most bizarre thing that you’ve ever eaten?

A tie between snails and rabbit.

I’m going to interpret this question to pertain only to real, edible food.

When I visited a friend in the Philippines, I tried some of the local fruits we don’t have here in Europe, like Latundan banana, dragon fruit, mangosteen, rambutan, and even the stinky durian. While the people there take these fruits for granted, it was a very bizarre experience for me, since I grew up on boring fruits like apples, plums, and pears.

While it was a very enjoyable experience to try these odd fruits, most of them I did not like: for example, dragon fruit I found to be just like an expensive, less flavourful kiwi. Mangosteen was just strange and slimy, and durian I found downright disgusting.

I did enjoy the little bananas, they were very delicious and I wish I could have them here. I’d eat them every day until I got sick of them.

My wife is a Filipina so I can relate to the uniqueness of their assorted fruits. Although I haven’t tasted mangosteen, rambutan, and durian.

No good Asia food-stores in your vicinity? They have them in the Netherlands. Also, the super-sweet little yellow mangos from India…

Most bizarre food for me was snails in northern France, by the sea. My then girlfriend, who spoke way less French than I’d thought said to me, those were scampis on the salad, I ordered… ugh!!

I dunno, wichety grub?

Sour patch kids

The most bizarre thing I’ve eaten is either crickets or gator

Very simple answer for me:

Spoiled food/fruit…

This had happened when I was on journey, and food I purchased from low-grade hotel was bizarre in taste. None of us ate that, though I ate more than other members in family, in order to compensate for the money spent for that. Ultimately it resulted in vomit during the trip, luckily we were not in the vehicle at that time.

Spoiled fruit is completely random. From the basket of fruits, there is probability of getting a spoiled fruit.

Also, another bizarre tasting food item was bitter almond and walnut. To me, its taste was like cockroach, and I processed the taste based on the smell of cockroach, which I can sense if cockroach is present in the room.

Spoil me this.

If it comes to that, I’d have a few stories in offer.

But agreed, it always remains ā€˜the ugliest’ thing…

hi @finickydesert,

Thanks for the answer and welcome to the community.

The only bizarre thing I’ve eaten is rabbit. it tasted weird :face_vomiting:

I grew up on rabbit, squirrel and deer. Ate possum once (i was lied to about this my grandfather told me it was rabbit). I plan to grow rabbits for meat when I buy my tiny home as they are pound for pound one of the cheapest meats to raise.

Cockroaches yield a distinct smell in room without ventilation. This ability had grown by experience with living in area with :cockroach: :cockroach: :cockroach:…

Philadelphia?
