From the January 2025 issue of Linux Format (LXF323), Newsdesk - Hardware, page 8:
For four years, Framework Computer’s laptops have received praise from Linux users due to a modular, customisable approach to builds and upgrades.
To this end, DeepComputing (which makes the Ubuntu-powered DC-ROMA II laptop) has launched an early access program to make its DC-ROMA RISC-V mainboard available for the Framework Laptop 13. (Darn…why not the Laptop 16 as well?!)
This doesn’t only bring the open source RISC-V archictecture to a mainstream laptop platform. DeepComputing has confirmed the board is compatible with the Framework and Cooler Master Case so can be used in desktops.
The mainboard features a quad-core StarFive JH7110 SoC, 8GB of RAM, and uses an SD card or optional eMMC for storage. Wireless support is via the Intel Wi-Fi 6E AX210 chipset.
The basic tier early access model retails at $368 (292 pounds). This includes the RISC-V board, Framework/Cooler Master case, two USB-C expansion cards, and a 64GB SD card.
The mainboard currently supports both Ubuntu 24.04 and Fedora Workstation 41.
Well, it’s a start. I would want at least 16GB RAM and a 2TB SD card.
