Regarding the site

I think the homepage as it is now could show a tagline like “What is endeavour’s mission” and a link to the download section, or maybe a direct link to the latest iso as the first things you see when you open up the page. This way you don’t come to a blank page where you need to scroll to see something besides a logo.

Ok, this thread is quite old, but I don’t think it is necessary to open a new one for this:
The “Info” Link in the navigation on the website has a target=“_blank” and opens a new tab. Also it has a title-tag showing “Info” on mouseover. All other links in the navbar don’t do that, so I think that it shouldn’t be that way. :wink:
I would suggest that the link to the forum opens a new tab, as there is no obvious way back to the homepage. :slight_smile:
Maybe some “legal info” and “social media” (if there is any) in the footer of the Wordpress-Theme would be cool too? I saw that for the forum, but didn’t found it for the website?
Thank you for the great work! (OS and Website/Forum)

@Bryanpwo ? i can have a look too :wink:

i feel the same.

where?

There are some Terms of Service and privacy notes. No Social-media or legal info… I guess that came with the forum-software.
https://forum.endeavouros.com/tos

yes but no social media links or kind of linking to mastadon or telegram :wink:
we could link to that terms from startpage also…

Sounds great - at least to me. :+1:
…finally a reason to create a mastodon-account. :elephant:

The website and the forum are going to get a minor update by the end of the month, as for the linking to the legal notes and social media, I’m aware of that one, but since rules and regulations in the EU has changed on this, I have to make them according to the new rules and this one requires a little study on the small print.

@DevNul When you click on Home in the top bar of the forum, you’ll get redirected to the Homepage.

Yes, of course. :man_facepalming: Sometimes my glasses aren’t helping…

I still think the site needs an update… I really like that the forum has a dark-theme by default. It would be nice to see the site revamped to something minimal! A minimal site for a minimal distro.

These are my suggestions:

  • Make a dark theme by default. No one needs to see their dead pixels;
  • Remove the huge images/banners from the site altogether. Stick a small version of the logo somewhere else;
  • Put everything behind links. For example, as it is, endeavouros.com automatically shows the latest post without having to click on anything. It would be better to just have a list of blog posts, and clicking on a particular post would open it, so one could read it;

Basically, imagine the simplest site there could be. That is my view! But I am a minimalist and I am aware that you’re probably against that. Still, these are my 2 cents.

Hi Markoff,

It’s been a while, have you succeeded in finding a server for your Discourse project?

I consider myself a person with rather minimalistic preferences too, but honestly I think you’re a bit exaggerating about the website’s look. It looks very clean and all the necessary information is within the reach. I’ve never had to search for anything, it’s all very intuitive.

On a side note, it was my first “smaller” distro, the other 2 I’ve tried before were big and rather old ones. I knew pretty much nothing about it and was a bit worried that the project may be a bit too new for me (newbish as I am :sweat_smile: ) and maybe the team doesn’t have enough resources and time to address all the possible issue that may arise, but when I saw how well curated and beautiful the main website is I definetely became more confident in the project because I knew that the team cared enough to make this first user impression agreeable and friendly. The website is the face of the project, the user will see it before anything else (the forum, github repo, etc) and it should look nice and appealing to the majority, imo. There are different kinds of potential users, some may not have an attention span long enough to read properly, some may get outright scared if you present them before a wall of text and links :smile:
And yeah, I prefer to know all my dead pixels in face, so I like the clear theme of it :slight_smile:

tl;dr I like the website.

Damn, that’s some good memory! My first thought was “what is he talking about?”, until I remembered. haha.

No, I just decided not to go ahead with it, you know, the usual decision. Hope you and yours are safe and well!

The minimalism period of Art or minimal art was about after second war around 1960…or you could consider the Bahaus period before the second war also as minimalist where all the fonts we use today without serif are coming from !!

EndeavourOS website is minimalist on its way. I found all what I need which is still the most important at the end.

I don’t particularly like the dark theme so I’m glad there is the option to set it to light. It’s too dark for me and i find it difficult to read and follow. Other than that i just don’t have a very good knowledge of this platform so i just wing it. :grin:

I’m using the light version as well.
