Programs on the lock screen

I don’t know why Handbrake and Files are on my lock screen.

Can you be a bit more descriptive? What is your DE or WM? If it’s a WM what lock/login screen are you using?

I assume that they are notifications of events while the screen was locked. Not sure which DE/WM though, and as you say that would definitely help in resolving this.

Gnome does this, and any fork (like Cinnamon) may have inherited this functionality also.

As stated above by r0ckhopper, it is a notification while you were away. Once you log in, to see the full notification just click the clock/time. If you want to disable this feature you can go to the bottom of this page for gnome help.
