Sorry, when I said “other usb”, I meant that I had a second one i tossed an up to date iso on. I was originally trying to make it work with one usb though.
It’s weird because I hear often enough of direct installs to computers that only use an iso that has been downloaded. So that logic makes it seem like a second usb is potentially not necessary.
I was looking at persistence because it offered a way to partition part of the udb drive, and in doing so could make that space more accepting of large files or such. It seems like it’s not a usual choice for a fully installed usb.
Initial problem is solved. Thanks everyone for the help.
On further reading, it sounds like usb does not fare very long. Other operating systems also work against them.
The big problem with Arch/Arch Based systems on a Thumbdrive is the fact that rolling releases needs to be updated constantly. This adds a lot of write time to the thumbdrive which in turn weakens the integrity of the drive. If you want a portable OS I would suggest using a External Drive.
Whenever I’ve tried to install to a (second) USB, even long before any write damage issue occurs, I just find it is soooo slow in performance as to be useless. The idea of a portable USB-based functional system is exciting. The reality stinks, at least for me.
Yes, external (HDD for longevity) works well.
seems he got a new born and not much time on slax ..
One ISO for sure what for you would need two? But one ISO on any install media like DVD or USB-drive to boot the installer environment from, and any hard-drive to install too.
So yes no second usb drive needed. In general ..
