Polybar closing after a period of inactivity in gnome

Hello, after recompiling the latest gnome updates to enable X11 I have an issue with Polybar on my desktop. It closes after some period of computer inactivity. This is a brand new behavior and one I am not happy about. I am not talking about the issue of Polybar closing when the monitor shuts down. I leave my desk with the monitor on and come back after a time and Polybar is gone. I have all power management and screen saver/blanking nonsense turned off, as far as I know, and had no such troubles prior to this update. Can anyone advise me of what change to gnome may be causing this and how to fix this behavior? Some new ā€œfeatureā€ I need to disable or adjust? Advice on where to look for clues to diagnose the issue?

I believe I’ve resolved the issue and I will post what I’ve done here and come back tomorrow and mark is ā€œsolvedā€ if this keeps working.

I will say the problem was more widespread than I realized. I came back and found my desktop background had gone black although curiously there was an open browser window clearly displayed against the black screen. Weird. This gave me the clue to revisit ā€˜xset s off’ I don’t know what file was disturbed in the update but I gave it a shot and it seemed to do the trick. I have inserted the command in a few places hoping to run the command automatically on login and also hoping having it multiple places doesn’t confuse the system hahaha. It seems to be behaving for now and I will mark this as ā€œsolvedā€ if it sticks.
