Thanks, i just moved over to KDE, fairly painless and quick due to endeavouros’s quick reinstallation. I am more familiar with this than gnome.
Yes, a system or even a true environment or almost a digital eco-system. It is easy to get lost because of the almost endless possibilities but if you persevere it can be very rewarding!
Perhaps KDE are more like the Elves (I mean Tolkien not Santa!).
Hm …, the elves are elitist …
Yeah
That would rather fit Xfce with its icons, which are reminiscent of children’s toys
I feel at home now, feels like windows.
Perhaps, and Middle-Earth doesn’t have Gnomes, but they remind me of Dwarves, and Dwarves are stubborn. In the Battle of Five Armies (The Hobbit) they disagreed until the Orcs showed up. For Orcs read Microsoft/Apple/Facebook etc whatever!
I like the background. Do you really need to clutter your desktop when they are already in your panel? You could use a dock.
Just filling it out with stuff before i upload stuff from my external drive to see how it looks.
If it helps her for the transition …, personally I haven’t liked icons on the desktop for a long time. And why should I imitate Windows? But if newcomers feel more comfortable, why not
Edit: For example, I really like the new plasma wallpaper. Why should I spoil myself with colorful, labeled blobs? It’s all a matter of taste …
@anon50380917 Yeah total Tolkien nerd!
The kate text editor reminds me of notepad++, very responsive than the one in gnome.
You may want to get into the habit of not always thinking in terms of comparisons. That only hinders you in the long run.
So far everything that i’ve used in windows is available in linux and i found arch by chance in the linux gaming reddit, moved from ubuntu, popos, manjaro, garuda & now finally settling in endeavouros which i find is the most minimal & fastest in install time, arch is too complicated for me. Thanks to op posting this thread, i found kde too.
Next time, when 5.24 is released, i will try again kde.
We’re talking about point releases. Anyone remember KDE3 and KDE4?
The trinity project does.
It’s almost tempting to try it out, but…nah! (no disrespect meant to those who like it).
