That is interesting…and it brings up an old childhood question. My grandmother was the only person I knew that grew gooseberries here, and she picked them green. ICKY Sour, bitter…
Once in a great while, she’d miss one and it would ripen to black. And it was delicious…
So, while it makes perfect logical sense to me, I wonder why you let yours ripen? haahah

I had a buddy who liked to make wine from fresh, ripe, delicious gooseberries. He was so proud of it–it was his favorite drink. He shared it with all his friends. It was the foulest, nastiest brew I ever tasted. Imagine equal parts auto parts cleaner and pickle juice with a spritz of bile. I’d excuse myself to the bathroom or kitchen and surreptitiously pour it down the drain. If he had many guests, I had to wait my turn…

Roses I grew. It’s too hot here right now but in spring they bloom like crazy.

I’ve got 7 rosebushes on my premises. . . I plant them all. With just the right amount of pruning and dead stem (limb) removal yearly they have grown real well. With ‘Bloom’ Fertilizer, high in Potassium they flower like crazy. Never thought I’d become a horticulturist but it’s all a learned process.

BTW nice looking rose photograph.

Rich;)

Thanks! I never thought I’d like growing them either but here we are, lol. I am in IT and after 30 years of hacking, multiple monitors and tech in depth, it’s nice to go outside and do something analog.

I got the idea of changing the “filt” from my kamado duo leaks. I bought some fiberglass for it.

It’s a pain in the ass to clean :joy:, specially if you have never done it.

End result: Not entirely happy but for the first time i cannot complain. Next time i will cut the black part from it on both sides to get a “better” result.

I didn’t take this picture, but I did scan it in and touch it up a little. My father was a B-24 tail gunner in WW2, European theater. This is his flight school graduation photo. A crew of 10 trained together stateside, then ferried their own bomber across the Atlantic. To go home, a bomber crewman had to fly 35 missions. Dad is the only one of his crew that finished all of his missions. The other 9 guys were either killed in action, captured, or medically evacuated to the US before they finished their missions. Pop got injured by flak one time, but it wasn’t serious. He got a purple heart medal for it. As a child I used to pin it on my shirt, pretend I was a war hero. Dad didn’t mind. Miss you Pop.
