Did they get proper housing as part of this “solution”?
Or they just got “covered up”?

Nothing has happened to them. They are still there. After the state hospital, Dammasch, closed in 81, it was mainly mentally ill folks who lived on the streets. Now it s out of control. I suppose some who still have a few brain cells eventually find their way out of this rut, but it s an ongoing problem that s been exacerbated by the legalization of drugs, the flood of fentanyl, and this piss poor economy. For others it s become a lifestyle. Ask them if they want a job, or some other meaningful help, and they look at you like you re crazy, though most will take all the cash you can give them.
