I have been dealing with an issue for the past couple of weeks since I installed EndeavourOS. Randomly while using the machine, the shell will lock up. The mouse will not move but I can still pass inputs along to whatever application is in the foreground.
If I am not playing a game, it fixes itself. If I am playing a game, the only way to recover is switching to another tty then back. Sometimes when I switch back, there is a small window in the middle of the screen that only should show up when switching audio outputs.
The frequency is random. I just booted this machine and its locked up about 20 times in 10 minutes. Sometimes I can go 30 minutes before the first time.
I have scoured the logs and I noticed that dmesg is filled with “nvidia 0000:05:00.0: Enabling HDA controller” messages. I ran dmesg –follow and those messages line up with the freezing.
This sent me down a rabbit hole trying to find someone with the same issue, but after many hours I haven’t found anything concrete.
I have tried the following:
Turning the nvidia output off
Turning the nvidia output on
Blacklisting the snd_hda_intel driver (kills all audio devices so no bueno)
Disabling the nvidia hda device via. udev
Removing the realtek wifi card (never know)
Updating the system
Using the LTS kernel (and nvidia drivers)
Switching from pipewire to pulseaudio
Removing all audio framework (pipewire, wireplumber)
The GPU lies at 0000:05:00.0 and the HDA device is at 0000:05:00.1. I haven’t tried disabling 0000:05:00.0 yet but that will most likely knock out my GPU.
None of this happens on windows.
Any input would be much appreciated.

Latest mesa drivers and set up with envycontrol to run on dgpu
NVIDIA 580.95.05 Open (dkms) drivers / KDE Plasma 6.4.5 on X11 / Kernel 6.17.1-arch1-1 (64-bit)
