Pasting large data files from one spreadsheet to another no longer works, unless I paste it in smaller chunks

This just started today, I think. I routinely copy and paste fairly large spreadsheet data files from one spreadsheet to another. The current data file is 4 columns and 4000 rows. Usually I can do that in maybe 20 seconds.

Now I find I can’t paste it all at once, I have to tediously paste it in segments possibly a quarter as large or less. Not much rhyme or reason to it, it will let me past 2000 rows and the next segment won’t work unless its half that.

I’ve found I can’t paste a big slug of data like that from a LibreOffice sheet to a Gnumeric sheet either, though again, in small chunks it works. So I don’t think it’s a spreadsheet problem, something to do with the clipboard function in the XFCE environment?

I’ve been working with GROK. Some limit has been imposed somewhere in the system. LibreOffice is trying to hand off a large slug of data to the clipboard, and past ~75 or 80K of data it just chokes.

There is a fix, which for large data files, open them in the Gnumeric spreadsheet, and then copy & paste them from there back into LibreOffice if that’s where it needs to go.
