NVIDIA drivers - failing after update

The nvidia drivers provided by pacman doesn’t work on my system, when i update them it does not load into the graphical interface (i3wm) forcing me to download the drivers using the one provided by nvidia on their website (using the tty).

Here’s the log: https://0x0.st/HXWt.txt

Looks like you have a driver mismatch.

(i have updated using the driver from nvidia website)

Don’t forget to use code tags around what you post.

Edit: I see 3 different driver versions. What did you do?

Never do this!

@php22
I suggest that you revert to nouveau first and reboot. Then we can install the nvidia drivers properly.

nvidia-inst -n

Then reboot and see if it loads the desktop. Then again run the command to check if nouveau is loaded.

basically since i didn’t know what to do i downloaded every single nvidia driver from pacman to test if any of them worked, and apparently i didn’t delete them

Okay at least now it has the same driver loaded. Did it boot to the desktop?

yes, so now technically i can update my system with no problems from now on right?

I would try running an update now and see if it updates the nvidia driver to the latest 530.xx series.

all fine, it did not update because i have updated about half a hour ago so it had nothing to update (that’s why i made this post). Thank you for your help :>)

But it will update the nvidia drivers and you should do that since the 530.xx series has some fixes. You maybe should update your mirrors first and then run an update again.

Edit: It will also prove that there are no issues.

@php22
Normally running nvidi-inst -n would revert to nouveau open source driver but because you had 3 different drivers loaded it seems to have reverted to a previous nvidia version. I would like it if you could update again to get the most current nvidia 530.xx series drivers and make sure there are no left over issues.

to update i just need to run “nvidi-inst” without any arguments right? or do i need to “sudo pacman -Syu”?

No… you need to run either

yay

or

sudo pacman -Syu

ok

@ricklinux
Let me explain what happened, so i updated like instructed and it didn’t load a graphical interface. So i spend a lot of time fixing it and i managed this by getting of the nouveau drivers and using the nvidia one, i think, i’m not really sure what i’ve done. But it is working now

edit: i used the “nvidia-inst” to download the driver

Does it have the nvidia 530.xx series now?
