Hi all! Just wanted to quickly post my findings regarding the newly released nvidia 560 drivers.
As you may know, the open source kernel modules are now the recommended way of using the driver. However, at least when using KDE with wayland, you’ll notice some stuttering as is also mentioned by someone here.
So the best way of handling things is unfortunately to still use the proprietary kernel modules with GSP module turned off.
So just nvidia-inst --32
(or nvidia-inst --32 --no-dkms
if you like) and put nvidia.NVreg_EnableGpuFirmware=0
into your kernel parameters.
Quick reminder: if using systemd-boot, put nvidia.NVreg_EnableGpuFirmware=0
into /etc/kernel/cmdline
and apply via sudo reinstall-kernels
. If using grub, put nvidia.NVreg_EnableGpuFirmware=0
into /etc/default/grub
and apply via sudo grub-mkconfig /boot/grub/grub.cfg
With this it’s all smooth sailing. I’m playing Deadlock atm and got 80-320fps on lowest settings (I’m on a 3080 Laptop GPU), which is a huge improvement over the 555 driver, which left me at 70-100fps
