(Newbie) When turning off and on laptop UI goes from KDE to GNOME

TL;DR Problem: used KDE plasma 6 as my desktop environment, but whenever I turn off my laptop and then turn it on again, it changes to Gnome.

Laptop: Lenovo Slim 3

EndeavourOS ; 2026.05.16 ver

Downloaded Endeavour like 2 days ago, didn’t happen until day 2 and I was confused but reinstalled KDE plasma and it worked however today it’s done the same thing (gone back to gnome). However, I don’t think this Gnome is correctly installed because it has minor visual differences to usual gnome. (no bottom apps selection, and blue wallpaper, top taskbar looks normal and works however).

I was looking into shortcuts for spectacle to show everyone what it looks like but theres a notice saying “Failed to Communicate with global shortcuts daemon”. So maybe it’s a conflict issue with the two UI’s somehow?

I don’t know if it’s the cause of the problem, but I was attempting to do a custom splash screen, so I was looking into Plymouth so that might be were the cause is.

Happy to do any konsol commands, and even more happy just to be told to nuke it and completely redo the install because I’ve only got Librewolf on this

On the login screen look for an option to select which DE you want to login to and select the Plasma option. I’m going to guess you have maybe installed it unintentionally as maybe a dependency run pacman -Qd in the terminal it will list packages that are dependancies.

And welcome to the forum.

Damn it your right, that’s exactly what I was doing, while reading this is literally got flashbacks to the yt video showing me how to fix the my Gnome problem initially.

Is there a way to make it the preferred UI so i don’t have to do it every time I log in?

It should remember your last choice.
