New wine problem

Since this morning’s upgrade my wine emulator no longer executes VCC.exe returning the following error. This is an essential program that I run frequently. Any advice will be appreciated.

Are you using something like Bottles (bottles AUR) or Lutris (lutris) to help you manage this?

With these, you’ve got a bit more control over Wine versions and such.

Alternatively, you can define a Wine prefix for the app with custom settings, but that’s a a little more advanced.

Are you using Wayland or X11, and have you recently switched?

No. I will try them.

How do I tell? I am new to Endeavour. I am using XFCE and I think that still works on X11.

Installed Bottles and ran it to execute VCC.exe. It does nothing returning to where it started with no error reporting.

Tried Lutris. Same result as Bottles. All I know for sure is that wine ran it until today. I suspect it’s because 32bit support has been dropped.

This bug has already been reported, as outlined in this forum thread: https://www.phoronix.com/forums/forum/software/desktop-linux/1585303-wine-10-17-now-defaults-to-egl-renderer-for-opengl-on-x11

Thanks for the link. I hope this gets fixed soon. I am working around the problem for now. How can I revert to wine 10.16?

sudo downgrade wine, then select the version you want.

Not quite on topic but it seems wine has brought back 32 bit support with the latest version

usr/lib/wine/i386-windows/

I executed

sudo pacman -U file:///var/cache/pacman/pkg/wine-10.16-1-x86_64.pkg.tar.zst

it being before 10.17-1, and it works like before. Now is there a way to block it being updated the next general update?

The downgrade tool @ajgringo619 mentioned provides you that option.

But to do that manually, you can edit /etc/pacman.conf, and find the IgnorePkg line (it may currently be commented). Make sure it’s un-commented and add wine to it:

IgnorePkg = wine

Many thanks. I applied your instructions and when updating it tells me wine is not updated. This reminds me to check for a newer version that works once in a while.
