New printer (shout out to joe)

@joekamprad
thanks for the wiki guide: https://discovery.endeavouros.com/network/printers/2021/03/

Like most people it didn’t cross my mind to look at it til I was out of options. had to buy a canon. the aur UFRII drivers were worthless and the AUR package for my model (that package was for network install only). I’m just a boy with a simple usb cord. And canon packages were just deb and rpm, no source file existed.

In fact joe I ignored all your network info (I refuse to go 631/Cups if a driver exists) but it really made sense what you wrote that most of us don’t do.
Makes sure certain services were on. (Mine weren’t).
Make sure certain packages were installed (I added foo engine I believe).
Check the manufacturer page in case of speclialized packages.

Did everything you told me and everything went off without a hitch in system-config-print (do I have that right?) and driver for model was in list.

So this is just a public thanks for making it easy

Wiki is build on community review up from a start years ago !
You can see me in on users questions and issues around Printers all the time and if we find out something new or changes i always try to adjust the wiki.
Luckily it is gone way easier to set up printers today, mostly around network printers with cups also going forward to driverless printing.

driverless means wifi only. so much of printing has become wireless.
What’s a boy with USB cord and a loathing for his data always in the air to do these days? i swear to deity-of-your-choice I will be taking old ones out of the dumpster someday… :slight_smile:
