Hi, I installed EndeavourOS on my old computer last night. I chose Btrfs for the first time, simply because I still want to learn something at the age of 60+. I started with Ubuntu a little over 5 years ago, then some Mint, then to Manjaro. I am now cured of the latter and would like to experience for myself how “bad and buggy” an Arch Linux is that the Manjaro devs have not yet tinkered with .
So get ready for some stupid beginner questions from me .
Hi, @Darius - have fun tinkering with EOS.
I started with Ubuntu 6.06 some years ago. From there traveled from Xubuntu, Manjaro, MX Linux, Bunsen Labs, Linux Light and some more I forget - and ended up with EOS.
Now I’m on EOS with KDE/Plasma/Wayland.
For me and my setup it is stable and responsive, it’s nice to look at, and “just works”. And so does its community.
As someone who grew up with Unix and then Linux through the early 90’s (that was last week, right?), I’m still learning things now, and that’s part of the beauty of Linux, - it challenges you, and offers you ample opportunity to think problems through methodically.
Every tool you could possibly need is right there for you, - beginner or advanced, there’s nothing that won’t work itself out given time. Enjoy the journey!
I have been using for almost two months so far (Although I have tested linux distros back in 2019 and 2014) so I am new as well but will try to help with any questions people raise, otherwise if I don’t know the answer then I guess we will learn together when someone else answers it.
I will admit a couple days ago I accidentally removed my main user profile from the Sudo database (Which is used for “admin” access), but thankfully thinking ahead when installing EOS I made a second profile with administrator access as backup so I logged in to that and added myself back in to Sudo permissions group which only took under 10 minutes. So other than that whcih was my fault I haven’t broke my system at all as I am careful with backups and reading before doing something.
At least for me, my system has been stable with no issues, I update my system once a week (Each Saturday) and nothing bad has happened so ti has been very stable with everything I have thrown at it.
after installing and configuring my EOS with the help of the users here, all works fine since weeks. So at the moment i can not open a “help me” thread cause all works Haha, just saying.
