Considering the symptoms that’s a reasonable first assumption. And maybe there are. But the network issue seems to fishy to ignore and should probably be solved first.
Reading through the arch wiki DNS page it says using getent. What does getent hosts hekla.is do for you?

Maybe it’s an IPv6 issue. But again, not a network guy, so I’m in guessing territory too now.

I decided to check what would happen if I would add
options edns0 trust-ad
search .
to /etc/resolv.conf
Now www.hekla.is shows up, and Udemy plays it’s video… I am marking this as solved.
