My xfce desktop environment is consuming a lot of RAM and I don't know why

I’ve been using xfce4 as my main DE for awhile now and just noticed that my ram is consuming ~2GB!? I’ve tried switching to Xfce’s vanilla theme and my ram usage was ~500MB and ~1GB when playing a Youtube video on piped (private YT front-end) using Librewolf and when I’ve started to customize the DE and it went back to ~2GB. Does anyone know what’s causing this to happen?

You could run:

sudo ps_mem

and see if it will give any clue as to what is taking up RAM space on your system.

Also perhaps check man free and:
