Mozc/fcitx for romaji input

how to make it work… i installed fcitx, mozc, and the configuration tool for fcitx, but i can’t seem to get anything to come out of fcitx

i.e., i have fcitx tray icon, have mozc enabled, pretty sure i have environment variables enabled for fcitx, but i’m just getting default keyboard input

okay, wait, it’s working in my terminal, but nowhere else.

(in XFCE I tried
yay -S ibus-mozc
ibus-setup
insert to .bashrc you are told and ibus-daemon in autostart) and Super+space works both
in terminal and Office
