At some point in the recent past, Meta+Right would tile the window to the right of the screen, and pressing it again would return the window to the place and size it was before. Lately it only tiles, and does not toggle back as it should. Feature/bug/me?
As far as i know meta-arrow never toggled “back” in my setup.
I use 2 monitors. Starting left most, repeated meta-right will move the window to the right most half of the right must screen. (Not at the pc right now, but will check tomorrow. )
Sure you’re not mixing up Meta
(AltGr/RAlt) with Super
(Win)?
I’m running EOS+Cinnamon, and Super
+→
tiles to the right, Super
+←
tiles to the left.
Not sure, really.
But IIRC on XFCE(which I used for more than a decade) the meta key was the windows-key.
And i use that same key on Plasma to move the windows.
From [1]:
What is a meta key?
A meta key, often referred to as the “Windows key” on personal computer (PC) keyboards is a special key used in computing. It’s usually located between the Ctrl and Alt keys. On Windows, it’s marked with the Windows logo. It’s used to trigger keyboard shortcuts and perform various functions within applications and the operating system.
On [2] someone claims it’s one of the Alt-keys, some one else says it’s the windows-key.
There’s is some ambivalence it seems.

Yeah, there’s usually some naming confusion, since Linux doesn’t exactly take all the X keys, like Meta
, Super
, Hyper
, Menu
, Compose
, Front
, Greek
, …
Btw, on kbd layout previews, Linuxes often show the right Alt
or AltGr
key as Level3 Shift
.
Anyways, just try…
For the purpose of my question… Meta = Windows key
Ok, so here on EOS+Cinnamon, it works. Lemme just hop over to the EOS ISO, to check KDE Plasma…
**EDIT: ** On the March 2025 EOS ISO (KDE Plasma), Super (Win)
+→
also tiles to the right, Super (Win)
+←
tiles to the left.
Didn’t find a “toggle back to previous window size”.
“Un-tiling” seems to have been removed, a reddit post says. See also: https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=500636
Right. In that case I can report that on my laptop (with just its native screen) pressing Meta/Windowskey-right moves the window to the right half of the screen. Pressing Meta/Windowskey-right again does not do anything.
Ok, feature then, I guess. I liked it better when it was actually a toggle. Thanks!
Yeah, I think “un-tiling” would be useful. Not the best decision to remove it, I’m thinking.
Perhaps this change of behaviour was introduced with the tiling option Meta/Windowskey-T?
Someone else reported something similar I believe:
