Map Tap, another Daily Challenge

Not everyone can do that either

On a globe it is all you can do, can fine tune with the n/s but I’m too lazy, as long as I known the general direction I get there

Don’t ask how, I swear god looks and goes wtf at times lol

I can definitely say that I know my way around a globe better than I do with picture puzzles

I know how to get food and get home, I happy. Any more I happier. I have a puzzle my little sister gave me unsolved and good chance I never will, the pieces are just weird.

Washington D.C. is in the state of Maryland. Antietam isn’t too far from there. Pivotal battle in the US Civil War.

Yer cool, I don’t know much about the US civil war except that it happened, something for me to look at I think

  • :yellow_heart: yellow: less electric nightlights in 2023, compared to 2012
  • :purple_heart: purple: new/more nightlights in 2023, compared to 2012

I just played with QGIS and found this.

This is part of NASA’s Black Marble composite imagery for nightlights around the world, as a comparison of 11 years (2012-2023).

Asia and most of the world is purple, indicating more urbanisation, more power consumption.

However, in Belgium, Great Britain, and France, lights went out. The satellites captured less light compared to eleven years ago. I’d say, Brexit might have played a role for the UK. The French-speaking, Southern Belgium traditionally got less economic activity than its richer, Dutch-speaking Northern parts.

EDIT

NASA Black Marble sources

That is really sad, the light pollution increasingly makes it harder to watch and photograph the night sky here in Europe.

I heard, a new trend is to book a remote telescope in Spain for that reason.

I remember when I first moved to the city, I was blown away by how much of the sky disappeared from sight

We’re a former coal-and-steel city, every evening the sky would shine red. Now, the industry is gone, but we still remain a logistics and trade-fair hub, thus a major distribution center opened for IKEA ( 51° 33' 39,8"N, 7° 25' 25,0"E ) and every night the night shines white, because of it.

I really need to study a map of the US, I get so many of these wrong. I’m surprised how close I got to the last one but considering I have never heard of it in my life, the name just sounded like it was from somewhere in that rough area

I moved Dien Bien Phu down to the 17th parallel.

And put New Orleans too far inland :person_facepalming:
