Lists, Lists, Lists that extensions use---are there vulnerabilities?

I shook things up and finally retired my two, go-to bulletproof browsing extensions. They were Umatrix and Absolute Double. Heavy heavy hitters, brutal, but both abandoned by their creators over a year ago.
Umatrix relied on Easy Privacy etc etc etc and 20 more lists I had to trust although I limited it.
Trace to a lesser degree.

I swapped for the lame (compared to the power of Umatrix) UBlock Origin and the powerful NoScript, both actively maintained. Same dev as the Olde Umatrix, raymond something.
And in their settings MORE MORE MORE lists.

Is it safe to rely on so many lists created by concerned netizens to block sites they abhor? Are there vulnerabilities/attack vectors to being over-reliant on lists? The browser extension itself is a vulnerability, this increases now.

Makes me think a big fat hosts file would be more efficient.

Any wisdom on lists? Thanks!

There are communities/sites that track these things pretty closely. One that comes to mind is https://privacyguides.org/ and especially their recommendations.

One is going to have to do what they feel comfortable with. Keeping lists up to date is a labor of love.

OK thank you. let me read this. this site changed a lot since I last saw it. if these list providers are a ‘self-policed’ community then that’s good. thanks for the steer
