Linux DE's resource usage compared

TY for reminding me about my old laptop.

I should really take some time to put Linux of some type on it.

It’s not really old, but it is a 4th gen of some type if I remember correctly (about 11yrs old) with 16GB DDR3 and an ssd.

I should be able to run a full blown Endeavour on it but I think I’d like to experiment with another distro.

Hmmmm…maybe I can run a log server for my firewall..something pretty…so much to do and not enough time to get it all done.

You can get one of those features. But not both at the same time. As usual.

According to a quick search in the AUR, chawan seems to be the latest TUI browser implementation.

And in this case, I guess the large buffer sizes are related to the fact that the forum is based on discourse.

This is why I overbuild my home systems because I don’t care what resources are in use. I realize that is not the case for everyone though. Even on my laptop I still use Gnome because it works so well in that environment.

I do appreciate this data however, because I have a 2mb ram eeepc my wife had that I want to revive for our grandaughter
