Liferea no longer starts, issues with libsecret and gnome-keyring.py

I’m using i3 and I’m not sure if it’s related but I have a line in my config file to execute polkit-gnome-authentication-agent-1 as i3 launches.

Here’s the error message when I run liferea :

Thanks for the help.

Hi, welcome to forum!

polkit-gnome is working fine currently as far as I know.

Error message makes me suspect there’s a partial update scenario. Could you do a system update and try again?

yay -Syu

I’m on the latest updates as of writing this, and Liferea launches on my system.

I have this line in my i3 config

exec --no-startup-id /usr/lib64/polkit-gnome/polkit-gnome-authentication-agent-1

I ran “yay -Syu” and there were no updates, it showed this though:

-> Missing AUR Packages:  nerd-fonts-complete  python-pep517
-> Orphaned AUR Packages: kjsembed kxmlrpcclient
-> Flagged Out Of Date AUR Packages: python2-cairo snapd

My config file points to a different folder for the authentication agent.

exec /usr/lib/polkit-gnome/polkit-gnome-authentication-agent-1

thanks for the help.

/usr/lib64 is supposed to be a symlink to /usr/lib so the difference in folder names shouldn’t matter here.

Are you able to start polkit from the terminal?

/usr/lib/polkit-gnome/polkit-gnome-authentication-agent-1

[gregoire@gregoire-x58aud3r ~]$ /usr/lib/polkit-gnome/polkit-gnome-authentication-agent-1
Cannot register authentication agent: GDBus.Error:org.freedesktop.PolicyKit1.Error.Failed: An authentication agent already exists for the given subject

Hmm I don’t have any ideas beyond that.

If the issue isn’t resolved here, you could report it to the developers

There’s a same issue from four years back

Ok, so I looked at the issues page on github, I installed the flatpak version, it managed to launch but it crashed every time I tried to update all subscriptions as described in this post so I downgraded to the previous flatpak version using this command :

sudo flatpak update --commit=836528e95772b20779e658ffbab641b7b052140b7dd1ebaa90cde8d5bc5929a4 net.sourceforge.liferea

and it works again. Thanks for the help @flyingcakes
