I finally did it. My first LFS build has booted and I’m logged in. That was…an ordeal.
The truth is the process wasn’t that hard but boy was it tedious. I was all ready then was not able to boot - kernel panic while trying to access the drive but after much wrangling and recompiling I have a booted system.
Now I will see what I can start to build onto this thing for further exploration…later

I never did get a working system with LFS - congrats! I did get a few Gentoo systems up and running, the closest I’ll ever get, I guess. My main reason for not trying again was the lack of a package manager.
LFS always seemed like sport to me. Like big game hunting. Something you can say you did. Your ordeal will likely lead to several more ordeals with it…that’s the fun of it.
I never read what the LFS people say…but I have read all the reviewers and almost unanimously sing the virtues of getting '“a true Linux education” and that’s not a bad thing at all.
Alpine to me is LFS with training wheels and a helmet and that was fun enough for me.
My hat’s off to your spirit of adventure
. I hope you update often and keep this LFS adventure active.
