It’s a craft beer and around for decades, I drank it 40 years ago first. At that time, it claimed to be the strongest beer in the world, with 11% alcohol and 28% gravity. Brewed according to the German Reinheitsgebot.
It’s not easy to get nowadays (I picked it up at the brewery shop), but absolutely worth it. Not for the weak, though.
Doppelbock starts at 7 - 8% alcohol and 18% gravity. All the -ator beers like Salvator or Aventinus Weizenbock fall in this range. Sometimes more devastating than EKU28 (we had weak knees after 2 x 0.5l Aventinus), but EKU28 with its 11% alcohol and the 28% gravity is still special for me.
You could smell from the other side of the room if a bottle was opened. Memories…
It’s plain water. Alcohol forms a azeotropic mixture with water at 96%, which means you cannot distill the alcohol away. It stays at 96% if you don’t use tricks, like drying it over CaCl₂.
can you see in the upper right corner of this can? 9.0!
this is cheap in my circle K. cheap as the high gravity stuff.
but masquerading as a hipster beer instead of a fruit-filled Mickeys.
This hits all the wrong notes: tastes, orange peels. hops, malt all that stuff larger than life and out of proportion.
If movies were beers what would this be?
This beer would be like drinking District 9 the movie.
Meaning it’s not even a good buzz it’s like antifreeze without the sudden death.
I’ll grab another can tomorrow just to make sure.
