Two Iwate Kura IPAs at a local fesitval yesterday!
Monks make the best beer.
Shout out to @Stagger_Lee whom I tip my glass to everytime I have one. Thanks. I hope all is well bud.
where would a guy find a beer like that? never seen it at my local store(s).
Ale or lager or pils?
Looks fantastic.
Orval is my personal favorite, when aged to about 30-34 months (this beer has live, active yeast, so it can age in the bottle instead of going stale).
wow that was a tumultuous read (lots of upheavals). From the article is seems Bocks and Brown Ales (two radically different beers to me) are the Trappist’s bread and butter. Top-fermented is the name of the game. Fascinating. On my radar now. Thanks for the the info.
edit/ps–PS Orval seems exclusive to Belgium in region (and name of the monastery there).
No, I can buy Orval locally here in the US. They do have a session beer that is exclusive to the monastery, but their regular beer is exported.
Yes I noted their Boston brewery closed in 2022 . I have a local Total Wine near me. Going to scour their online inventory now.
edit!
also @Stagger_Lee that article warned of knockoffs and ‘trappist-styles’ out there. saw plenty of them at TW also. Out of respect to the Trappist brewers, one has to read the fine print. This lovely bottle is 2 miles away
Um, I’m pretty sure that there was no Orval brewery in Boston…perhaps you’re thinking of Spencer, which closed in 2022? Spencer was excellent. I was skeptical but it was truly a wonderful Trappist ale.
Available in places here. So far my favorite.
@Stagger_Lee
something about those pictures says Big Ole Buzz and tasty
I still haven’t found any Belching Beaver, but my local Mast Brewing’s Gunner’s Daughter peanut butter stout is a mainstay for me.
I owe you anyways. . . . . let me know.
An ice cold VB.
