Another offering from Foulmouthed Brewing, South Portland, Maine USA.

Foulmouthed has seriously impressed me so far; will this bottle continue the trend?

This is their Liquid Leftovers, a barrel-aged sour with cranberries. According to the label, they brew a brown ale for Thanksgiving every year (it’s called Sir Squirrel, and I haven’t sampled it - yet). They set aside some of that brown ale, age it in Port wine barrels with locally-sourced cranberries, and release it the next year as Liquid Leftovers. From the label: “We are thankful for all the wild yeast that ride in on the berries like a bunch of pilgrims. They make this beer great.”

And great it is. Rather similar to Rodenbach’s lovely, aged Alexander, and also a bit similar to Petrus Oud Bruin, which is a very high compliment indeed. Darkly sour, with a nice biting tartness. I don’t detect any specific cranberry flavor, it comes off more as sour cherry-ish. There’s a noticeable “woodiness” from the barrel aging, more hard-edged than creamy.

There’s a lot of dark, brooding complexity here; not quite as much as Petrus Oud Bruin, but it’s close. Very close. It also has that pure refreshing quality that a good Flanders red possesses.

Foulmouthed Brewing has, again, impressed me greatly. An utterly fantastic beer, and one that, in a blind tasting, you would undoubtedly assume to be from a great old Belgian brewery. Highly recommended, if you can find it.

Damn, I’d get serious stage fright if I had to send @anon3337769 a sample of my beers. Luckily, ‘‘wet cargo’’ is something like 70 US dollars just within Europe, so I’ve got that exuse!

Cool that Foulmouthed is (OK, almost) doing blending, kinda! Blending is old school, like in Old School!

Foulmothed Brewing has, so far, been ridiculously good in the beers I’ve sampled. Incredibly impressive brewery, and I have yet another of their beers here to try. Stay tuned.

Yeah, we have quite a few breweries here in Portland Maine. Not all are world-class, but most are at least very good.

As much as I love Seattle, and it’s literally the reason I moved 3 time zones, the best coffee to me goes to Hawaii. Although, I have a really hard time passing Cherry St. Without grabbing an Americano.

Be careful though, most of them have a very high alcohol content (10% and upwards)
