Hi there,
I’ve installed Endeavour couple of months ago as linux dual boot option alongside Win11 on Hp ProBook G7 440. Just today I realized that when I shut down my PC and then attach usb c charger it turns on! Previously I thought that I was forgetting to shut down properly, but today I did an experiment to open laptop after I shut down and attached charger it it turned on.
Did anybody face similar issue? What’s the possible problem? Any help would be much appreciated.
It’s most likely going to be a setting in your BIOS/UEFI - if the system is shutdown, the OS isn’t running and won’t be doing anything. I haven’t played with an HP BIOS for a while unfortunately so I couldn’t point you to a specific setting.
Failing that, it’s a hardware issue - again, the OS isn’t loaded if the system is off so won’t be doing anything at all.
Check your BIOS/UEFI settings, perhaps check HPs website to see if there is an update. Trying another charger would also be a good idea on the off-chance it’s something screwy going on with the charger you’re using.
The HP BIOS/UEFI usually contains a full diagnostic suite which I believe includes tests for the AC adapter, maybe run a full test through that if you can’t find a relevant setting.
As @z580c was suggesting, the setting in your BIOS/UEFI would generally be found under “Power” settings, and possibly a sub-category of “Wake on…”. Keep an eye out for something there that might be enabled.
thanks all for help, I was trying different power settings in BIOS, nothing helped, then I did BIOS reset to factory default, and boooom, problem solved
