KRDC unable to choose protocol

Hi all,

Windows user here. I recently decided to give Linux another try (previous ubuntu experience). I settled on EOS + btrfs.

So far so good. I am still getting the hang of how the file system differs from an MS environment and so my ability to troubleshoot is low right now. My issue with KRDC is the first issue documentation and searching here has not worked for me.

I tried using KRDC with flatpak, which I did install but I get this error when trying to run KRDC;

error: app/org.kde.krdc/x86_64/master not installed

I have the ref file in my documents dir ; /home/”myusername”/Documents\org.kde.krdc.flatpakref

and I am in that dir when I try to run “flatpak run org.kde.krdc”

I tried updating flatpak, installing more platform files. No dice. Then I tried pacman -S krdc. That did get KRDC installed but when I try to rdp to my windows system I am unable to choose a connection protocol from the drop down to the left. I am not sure how to troubleshoot this since there is no “error” or log output for me to use as my starting point.

edit I chose to try using KRDC to avoid dependencies. If I have to, or should be using Remmina please let me know.

Hey, congratulations on making the switch! I hope that EOS gives you a better experience than you have had in the past with previous distros.

I utilize RDP and other remote protocols A LOT, and I would highly recommend that you instead choose to utilize Remmina over KRDC. I’ve found that KRDC is a lot less mature, and is slower to get updates.

If you plan to utilize RDP you will need to ensure that you also install the freerdp package (or remmina-plugin-rdesktop). Installing the flatpak will make your experience much better. Particularly if you’re a new user.

Thanks. So far EOS is more what I like, in fact I think I like arch vs deb so far. I just installed remmina and freerdp and it works flawlessly. Seems like that is the way to go.

Great! I’m glad to hear it.
