I’m running EndeavourOS with KDE Plasma, and I’ve encountered a recurring issue that also affected me when I was using Arch Linux previously. Whenever I try to open a link from within a GUI application (for example, from within an email client or other installed program), the link does not open in my default browser (Google Chrome).
Instead, I get a notification from kioexec that says something like this:
Title: kioexec Message: to Home/.cache/kioexec/krun/25580_0/Guide
Nothing happens in the browser itself—Chrome doesn’t launch or receive the URL.
This behavior is consistent across all apps that attempt to open URLs externally. Chrome is set as my default browser both in KDE settings and using xdg-settings.
Has anyone else experienced this issue?
Is this a known problem with kioexec, or could it be a misconfiguration on my side?
I’d appreciate any guidance or troubleshooting tips to resolve it.
I’ll follow up shortly with more system details and screenshots if needed. Thanks in advance for your help!
I’ve started having this problem too. Any help would be very much appreciated.
The only difference I’m having is that after the download to .cache completes, my browser (Vivaldi in my case) opens up the resulting file as plain text.
Returned an error message stating that the vivaldi-stable.desktop file didn’t contain an exec line with the %U parameter. This wasn’t quite true, as it did actually contain this, but not all of the exec lines (there were three in total) contained a %U, so I added it there too. I had to restart my KDE session by logging out/back in, but after that the above command correctly opened my browser at the web site and not plain text from .cache
