Great to see more exposure for Plasma!
4 attempts to install Fedora KDE and make it work?
But she got their, it’s all about the journey! ![]()
Do you remember the first few times you installed Linux? Sometimes we’ve got to learn along the way.. ![]()
Very True, we were all new to Linux at some point and had to learn the new OS. I remember the 1st time I installed Linux back in 2007. Boy was I lost! ![]()
That’s one of the reasons why Fedora is hard to recommend for noobs, they have to exclude video codecs because of software patents and being attached to a U.S. company.
Glad they figured it out in the end, but alas the video is mostly about getting Fedora and the particular hardware working instead of running of KDE plasma.
For a newbie coming in that is asking for too much of effort. They just might leave, with the impression that Linux is hard and not worth their while.
I am truly surprised that Fedora which has the legacy of Red Hat behind it is soo hard to install. They should have figured this out by now.
Ouch - that seems like an installation from hell. Not familiar enough with Fedora or Framework laptops to tell if these bugs were framework bugs or Fedora bugs. Definitely not KDE bugs though!
I agree with her that the settings panel for KDE plasma is a bit overwhelming for newbies. The KDE developers should definitely look to provide a simplified view by default, with some kind of toggle/checkbox which allows the user to expose more complex/advanced settings.
