KDE is to Linux what 7 was to Windows

If you use Gnome you have issues! The dock, the extensions blah blah blah. KDE is awesome!

Looks like KDE-users have more issues with GNOME than actual GNOME-users.

We like Gnome …just not on our desktop!

Edit: I have it in vm. Does that count?

Fair enough.
Maybe something for the garden?

Yeah well I didn’t get very deep into customizing it. I got tired after a couple hours. On XFCE if you have a panel with launchers on each monitor, the program opens on the monitor you click the launcher on. I noticed this is not so on KDE.

plasma has a complete rules engine you can use to determine where and how windows open as well as a bunch of other things. You can make it work virtually however you want.

Was actually expecting this to be so. I need apparently a lot more hours with it. maybe I’ll make time for that this year.

And who would have thought we’d actually ever agree on something.

To each their own. I use KDE these days because basically - there’s all of about 5 settings total I have to touch, and everything is ready to roll for me where I want/need it.

I do love there’s so much choice. If you don’t like choice → hell, you can even choose that!

the aboulic’s hell ^^

It’s not a problem of having too much choice. It’s a matter of having to search the internet to locate the settings you need. That plus, the DE comes with a lot of effects pre-enabled, including system sounds (ugh!). I’m fairly sure I can get it to a state where I can use it and enjoy it. The trip is a bit more than I’ve expected. I used KDE two years ago, but don’t remember it being so perked up. Or, is this only a case with the EOS preconfigured version of KDE?

What system sounds are you talking about? Do you mean notifications sounds? Mine are not pre-enabled.

By minimalist I mean less configurable.

Unless something has changed very recently, plasma isn’t preconfigured at all in EOS. It is 100% base plasma.

Used to love KDE a lot, but never with plasma. At the times (KDE4 and early 5) I was using be:shell with it. And now that is not maintained anymore and I ā€œhave toā€ use plasma, I simply cannot stick with it, I don’t understand why, seems always ā€œunfinishedā€. Gnome instead, especially 40 perfectly fit my work routine.

Ps: I really miss konsole and kwin a lot tho. This are really excellent pieces of software! Konsole probably my preferred terminal ever. Will use it on gnome if it will not pull half KDE along with it.
