Hello, just installed my first arch based system. If I transfer a set of config files from the ubuntu system, will they work in endearvouros, system settings such as keybindings, virtual desktops. Similar question regarding neovim and zsh. My thought would be that they are independent of the underlying os, but being entirely new I want a sanity check. Thanks
Due to how dated Debian/Ubuntu programs are, I wouldn’t.
Unfortunately, at least the config settings for KDE are spread into a wide variety of individual configuration files. Therefore it might be a bit cumbersome.
But I had no larger issues by using konsave to migrate my KDE Plasma configuration between installs.
On your Ubuntu machine, you could install it via pip / PyPi - but I can’t tell if it would work seamlessly between different distros.
Also, it largely depends how custom your KDE Plasma configuration on Ubuntu actually is, konsave for instance doesn’t cover the 3rd party extensions / themes that have been installed via KDEs webstore.
In terms of neovim and zsh, I guess it’s not that complicated and the usual dotfile approach would work.
is this working good? i mean at least in case you reinstall and put your configs back?
@jam welcome warmly here i hope you will find home fun and friends on the purple side ![]()
More or less. But for non-standard plasmoids / widgets you may end up with “object not found” errors. So, it may save the plasmarc and other settings correctly. But you’ll have to keep track of the manually installed widgets that don’t ship with plasma out of the box.
ah i see may in addition you need to add some path with the files it needs for these.
