KDE 6.4.5 Wayland

Dear friends,

Lately been getting this issue, upon which every time i logon and load a browser or webapp the desktop starts to flicker and goes black on all connected displays. I then reboot & it might or might not return again until i turn on the device again.

Is there a way to restart the desktop please like alt + F2 in some debian based, the cmd below doesn’t seem to do much or a fix please :folded_hands:?:

  • systemctl restart sddm

God bless :slightly_smiling_face:

Hey! I used to use

kquitapp5 plasmashell && kstart5 plasmashell

I think that’s defunct now. Have a look at

plasmashell --help

Thank you :folded_hands:

In addition to @Canoe’s suggestion, here’s another alternative.
systemctl --user restart plasma-plasmashell.service

Thanks, i find these cmd below work better, systemctl –user restart plasma-plasmashell.service, doesn’t seem to do anything  on my ver.

5.xx above ver of KDE:

kquitapp5 plasmashell #stops but optional

killall plasmashell # stops

kstart plasmashell #restarts

startplasma-wayland #restarts

startplasma-x11

Cheers :folded_hands:

If you are using X.org and not wayland then you can try to use the key combination CTRL+ALT+Backspace. It may not work for every setup.

Just a heads-up that this isn’t enabled by default anymore for EOS, more so given Wayland is becoming default for most distros now.

I did not know that. Thanks.
