@markus_zus
I gave you the info. Told you what you need to install for the 580xx drivers. You have a hybrid laptop. I don’t even know what your hardware is. If it’s not a Turing Gpu or higher then yes it isn’t supported by the nvidia-open drivers and requires the 580xx version from the AUR. You have to switch gpu in order for it to render using the nvidia gpu. You have to do that with methods available to do that. So it’s all irrelevant if the laptop is rendering on the Intel gpu. I don’t know because you didn’t provide the information i needed.
Of course it’s not, I confirmed it above. The 580xx driver is the correct one. The issue is with playing videos over tor due to that, even if I run it with prime-run.
Just shows me you don’t really know what you’re doing. Asking for help but then not wanting to provide info. I understand you are having issues with playing videos using tor browser but just wanted to make sure first of all you have the correct drivers for the hardware you have and that they are installed properly and and loaded. That was the first thing necessary.
@markus_zus, while I understand your strict privacy policy to some extent, you likely transmit more information about you and your system while on internet.
It would be much easier to help you, if you could provide information asked.
Welcome to the Purple side by the way!

well let’s do just that?
I have GTX 10xx series, so that driver is the correct one.
the nvidia-smi shows the correct version of NVIDIA-SMI 580.119.02
what exactly do you need next?
Likely, but I’m not.
And I’m not here to go into holywars.
So when you are playing videos with Tor browser is it using the Nvidia Gpu?
Not by default. But I did run tor browser with prime-run and it couldn’t play videos either
Not by default. But I did run tor browser with prime-run and it couldn’t play videos either.
Here for example: https://inv.nadeko.net/watch?__goaway_challenge=js-refresh&__goaway_id=d6214c470c8cb80a711ca4a5a590d3a8&__goaway_referer=https%3A%2F%2Finv.nadeko.net%2F&v=i_mQduswVPM it shows “No compatible source was found for this media.”.
Can’t access that. Not sure i can be much help. I don’t use tor browsers. I also don’t use the hardened kernel. You’ll have to do some research yourself. ![]()
It was just an example of the issue. You can obviously access anything within https://inv.nadeko.net/feed/popular or switching one of their server/s.
I did my “research”, there’s nothing that address that
Well I guess you have all the answers then. ![]()
Obviously not all if I seek help here
Well It’s like going to the doctor and asking for them to figure out why your sick but you won’t give them any symptoms. ![]()
symptoms are indications. I gave you what I’m experiencing - the issues I have and the context of them.
I asked you directly already for what kind of exact further info you need in order to provide help - you didn’t answer.
If you are not willing to provide help without de-anonymizing me - say so. but don’t try to get out of me all the specs of my machine for some ambiguous reason
Why not just provide the things you don’t see as private?
I understand your concern, but a more fruitful endeavour would be just providing parts of the output that you are okay with sharing.
Look we already told you there is no privacy issue. If you don’t want to provide information I can’t help you and neither will anyone else. I’ve already given you more of my time than you deserve. This is how I do things. I don’t just have an answer in my head that will tell you what to do … problem solved. When a user asks for help i work through the problem from a hardware perspective because that’s where my knowledge and experience is based. If the user is willing to work with me and give me the info from the commands i give them and do as i ask they get my help. In many cases I resolve their issues. I am not an expert nor do I think I am. I just know what I know… do what i do and try to help. Most people get the help they need or get pointed in the right direction. I also rely on other intelligent more experienced users to provide assistance when necessary. I’m not here to play cat & mouse over non issues of privacy! There are others that will welcome my help without question. I don’t always have the answer.
Sorry to be blunt here… but this is all a bit crazy. Again, there is NO “private” info in the inxi -Fxxc0z prompt. NONE.
- Coming to a forum seeking help
- Not providing the necessary info to diagnose the issue
- Ignoring ways to assist you
- TROLL.
The most info is unrelated to the issue, it’s counterproductive and looks naive at best.
Asking for the relevant info is the way to go.
But that’s ok, thanks for your time. I’m out.
Either this or then someone’s WAY too deep in the darknet.
