Issue with Icon Display for .dart Files in Endeavour

image

Hello,

I’m using Endeavour , and recently I came across a file with the .dart extension. I noticed that when I create files with extensions like .c or .kt, the file icon automatically changes based on the programming language. However, for .dart files, no icon is displayed, and they show the default file icon instead.

Has anyone encountered this issue or know of a solution to fix it?

Thank you!

This likely has something to do with what program the file is associated with in your desktop environment. If it’s not associated, then it’ll default to the default icon.

When you open that file (eg: double-clicking it), what happens? Does it ask you what to open it with?

Also, if you could let us know what desktop environment you’re using, that would be clarifying (eg: Gnome, KDE Plasma, etc).

It could just be your icon theme as well. Not all icon themes have a specific or even general icon for certain files. Some icon themes will have a different icon for different image and video types, while some will use the same icon for all videos, and the same for all images.

EDIT:
Just went through some icon themes: Tela, Fluent, Papirus, Qogir, Numix, and Breeze. None of them show a specific or programming-related icon for .dart files. It very likely means that that file type doesn’t have a specific icon in any icon theme, since those are pretty much all the most popular and complete icon themes.

I am almost sure you can add the file type to the general programming icon, but you can research how to do that for yourself.

When I click on the .dart file, the Kate program opens. My desktop environment is KDE.

Thank you for taking the time to check out several icon themes. I can’t find the method to do it, and I asked ChatGPT, but the solution didn’t work. If you know any way to do it, I’d be happy to learn.

Thanks again for your time
