Is this real? iGPU memory

Hi all

I just installed EndeavourOS, did a glxinfo and then it shows me this part of the total output:

Extended renderer info (GLX_MESA_query_renderer):
    Vendor: Intel (0x8086)
Device: Mesa Intel(R) Xe Graphics (TGL GT2) (0x9a49)
    Version: 24.1.2
    Accelerated: yes
    **Video memory: 15883MB**
    Unified memory: yes
    Preferred profile: core (0x1)
    Max core profile version: 4.6
    Max compat profile version: 4.6
    Max GLES1 profile version: 1.1
    Max GLES[23] profile version: 3.2

Is this real? I thought iGPU are limited to 4GB

Intel iGPU can use up to (I believe) 50% of the installed system memory dynamically, unless otherwise limited by firmware settings etc.

wow! i installed new 32 gb RAM, so now the iGPU has the half of it? Great thing!

It’s dynamically allocated, so it won’t just sit and hog the whole 16GB unless you’re doing something that requires 16GB of VRAM (or something is broken!)

AFAIK the tool is just reporting the theoretical max RAM available rather than what’s actually being used, so nothing to be concerned about
