Is it normal for xorg to run on startup in Wayland?

This might be a dumb question but I am going to ask just to be sure.
So, I saw that xorg is running on start by default even when I don’t have any X11 program open. Also, kwin_wayland seems to only run when I plug my eGPU in. Did I setup something wrong here?

edit: I am using KDE Plasma 6 on Wayland session here.

This is the nvidia-smi output:

$ nvidia-smi

As KDE uses both x11 and Wayland - yes would be a logical answer.

But whether it is the factual answer or not is something someone else may know the answer to.

Also, Wayland is not the standard yet, so it would totally (logically) make sense to have x11 as a fallback in case of issues.

Okay. Thanks for answering my question. I just thought that xorg would only run when an X11 application is open.

Also, do you know if kwin_wayland should be present normally? Because I only see it when I connect an eGPU.

SDDM runs in X11:

Note: As of SDDM version 0.20, Wayland sessions are listed and can be started from SDDM, but the SDDM greeter itself still runs in X11 mode by default, although an experimental Wayland greeter can be enabled.

Make sense. Thanks a lot
