Interpreting update output (always wanted to ask)

I always wanted to know what I was seeing exactly.
Here’s what I think I am seeing:
I have 483MiB of packages ready to install, back on Endeavour server?

After the packages leave the server, get downloaded then installed on my cinnamon it becomes a 1481Mib because of zipped/compressed packages being extracted?

The .07MiB is what the operating system grew by after the install, suggesting Endeavour cleared away/deleted old package data as it wrapped up installation.

What do I have right? What do I have wrong? Thank you. edit: phrasing

I believe they are extracted in-place. So it shouldn’t grow by 1.4GiB and then shrink again.

I don’t think there’s anything cleared/deleted, metadata files of the new package overwrite metadata files of the old package as for any other file in the archive.
