Intel or Realtek NIC / Linux compatibility

I have an ASUS ROG Crosshair HERO VIII (wi-fi) That is an x570 motherboard with an Intel I211-AT(wired), Realtek RTL8125-CG 2.5 LAN and Intel AX200 for Wi-Fi. All 3 adaptors work perfectly fine for me without the need to install any additional drivers/tools.

Thanks for the feedback, what I have noticed is that the x570/b550 prices are not so distant.
Found some X570 cheaper than the b550, maybe because the x570 has been launched more time ago, and here we pay extra for things that are recently launched.

Just to give you an Idea the AX200 Wi-Fi is new 802.11AX standard but the Intel I211-AT was put out in 4th quarter of 2012. Not that that is a problem but just pointing out that some chips including Realtek have been around for quite some time. Wifi AC and AX being the newest are more current than N and faster!

Is that this one?
Ethernet controller [0200]: Intel Corporation I211 Gigabit Network Connection [8086:1539] (rev 03)

Yes according to what i looked up. Not sure about the revision number but that’s when it came out.

I would say not to worry about the network card too much. Be it Intel or Realtek there shouldn’t be much trouble with it. The whole r816/r8169 deal mostly applies to some older model of Realtek card.
I mean it was there on my 2012 era laptop. I’d expect the industry to have moved away from an 8 years old chip and come up with something newer if not better. On my current machine (2019 era laptop) I see it is a RTL8153 chip (driver r8152). It’s works flawlessly and never had any problems with it.

From the same Hardware Unboxed you’ve linked earlier, I’d take a look at these boards too:
Basically it’s the previous episode with cheaper boards, but he only takes into considerations the ones with beefy VRMs and cooling for them.

I’d say if you don’t really need all the features of the more expensive boards you can put the money aside for other upgrades that you’re more likely to notice.

Thanks man, I didn’t watch that one =)
Going to make a coffee to watch it, thanks

In this roundup they are all mATX form factor, that wouldn’t work for me… But nice to watch the video anyway and the coffee was great
