Intel BattleMage news! NEW update! Thoughts after time with the B580--

Interesting Info: https://www.phoronix.com/news/Intel-Perf-Tips-Linux-Graphics

I do like that “firmware updates via fwupd are in progress.” May that happen sooner than later…

Is there anything there that you weren’t already running.

Not really—just common sense stuff. I do disable ASPM, though. With BOINC using the computer’s “downtime,” I don’t want the PCIe bus to go to a lower power state. I’m really hoping that Intel gets fwupd completed sooner rather than later…I do not like booting Winblows every time there is a firmware update & they are coming every week to 2 weeks right now.

Another “interesting” update from Phoronix…I do really hope that one of the “new” IDs is for a B770… https://www.phoronix.com/news/Three-More-Battlemage-IDs

More nice information about the 6.15 kernel. I’m really happy about this: drm/xe/hwmon: expose package and vram temperature !!! And I am VERY interested in more information on this: New PCI IDs for Battle Mage (Shekhar)

Lots of exciting developments for the next kernel cycle!!! It looks excellent!

Definitely would be interested to see how things improve upon the stable release of that kernel.

Yes—I’m sure that Phoronix will be doing tests with 6.15 pretty soon…it “looks” like there will be a nice uplift…now we just need to see a B770…That would really make my day.

I also keep an eye on mesa repo, and there were a few good fixes in mesa 25 (ala). They probably have an even bigger impact for the overall experience.

Personally I’ll stick with the A750 for now and give the whole Xe stack another year to mature. I would mostly use the performance difference for gaming anyway, and in the regard the lacking Xess/RT hardware support doesn’t justify an upgrade for me.

I don’t regret selling my A750…the B580 is nicer, but I still want a B780 if they produce one.

Talking about the Xe2 driver stack…More good news: https://www.phoronix.com/news/Intel-Xe-SVM-For-Linux-6.15

According to these recent news, retail plans for higher tier Xe2 dGPUs were shelved by Intel, last year already. Thus, no other Xe2 variants for the consumer market. And we will have to wait for Xe3.

Well, that’s unfortunate. Xe3 might be very good, but we’ll just have to wait and see. As for now, my B580 works very well & I can be mostly content at this time…

This is the kind of post that still gives me a glimmer of hope: https://www.phoronix.com/news/Intel-Battlemage-Mesa-0xe211
