Inconsistent keyboard latency - hp envy x360 16-ad0000ca

HP Envy x360 2-in-1 Laptop 16-ad0000ca
bios: F.03 F.05
Amd Ryzen 7 8840HS APU
kernel 6.11.9-arch1-1
KDE and gnome are both affected

I experience inconsistent/irregular keyboard latency, both on the built in keyboard and external keyboard. This is on a fresh install, as noted I experienced this in both KDE and gnome. It appears to go away when system monitor is open, so I suspect it has something to do with power management, but maybe this is just some placebo effect.

I have noticed that my bios version is old so I will try updating it.
I have updated my bios, it did not fix the issues

I’m noticing that animations being on screen seems to fix it, so maybe typing just isn’t updating the screen for some reason? When I move the mouse it does update.

this is a laptop, is that what built-in means? and external means a plug-in wired keyboard for the laptop? same computer?

I have some ideas but just wanted to clarify.

Yes to both, and the latency is the same with both.
It appears to be a graphics issue (screen doesn’t update automatically), I also get a bunch of graphical bugs (artifacts) intermittently.

ok whatever I say will have no real value. anecdotally. between wired and keys with dongle, between 3 very different distros, over the years, including endeavour–it happens like bad weather and never lasts too long.

am I saying it’s normal? for me, yes,

once a year, for a couple weeks, or couple days, I will type a bunch of sh** and sit there stunned as it barely comes out or rarely comes out or output unrecognizable and at worst a bunch of gibberish—you mentioned this…or artifacts and weirdness…you mentioned this. not just latency but other things asleep here.

just a horrid linux time. once in a while I will just get a POS keyboard from goodwill and swap it out…sometimes problems disappear

it’s never too long, like tornado season or rain…I can’t even tell you why it comes and why it goes away…we go through keyboards, computers, wired ports, dongle ports–I even had a dongle die once.

but latency always a part of my life with Linux. less frequent than eclipses…

unplug dongle/plug it back in? unplug usb keyboard plug it back in? the usb ports themselves including wireless/dongle? yeah temporary relief sometimes.
made me believe it was not software but hardware…but sometime I think the opposite.

this is a verbal diarrhea salad to say it’s common (yearly) in my life and I have no idea what causes it but it never lasts too long. most people don’t live this wretchedly with computers but between multiple desktops/de’s/distros etc its never been a stranger

It’s a brand new laptop is the issue, so I’m wondering if it’s faulty. I don’t really have time to install windows back on it to see if it works properly. Hopefully I’ll find the time to do that before the 15 day return period runs out.
