In 2021 What DE are you using or switching to?

I said this but I am back on EndeavourOS KDE after a month on BSPWM Arco.

LOL. What happened? You sounded so adamant.

Tried Arco, but all the different projects confused the hell out of me.

BSPWM is great. But I like new technology I think more. So when I saw all the notes about Plasma 5.21, I just wanted to try it.
And yeah a Window manager mostly stay the same. So I missed a bit of the refreshing exciting part.
So at the moment using EndeavourOS KDE. Maybe will try sxhkd though on KDE.

Still with Plasma (5.21), although a part of me wants to try XFCE, despite it not being as accessible in some areas, it feels “simpler”. Sometimes I feel I’m over-engineering my workflows.

Yeh, same! I don’t understand the difference but that’s why we have EOS!

gtk3-noscd-git doesn’t work on wayland for some reason and it makes me cry!

“Simpler”… yeah, right, that’s it!

Have been on KDE for quite some time, felt more and more messed up by all the configuration options giving me an unstable kind of feeling, personally.

Currently I’m on Vanilla Gnome - KISS!

Would be interested in your thoughts on Gnome 40 - there seem to be a ton of design changes coming in…

Calculate Linux

It’s hard to judge from Youtube and forums, after all the complainers are always the noisiest people, but there seem to be a bit of a divide on 4.0, almost as bad as the one from 2.x to 3.0 despite the changes not being as extreme.

Might Gnome have another fork on their hands, ironically one striving to preserve the “original Gnome” which this time is 3.x not 2.x…

herbstluftwm fer life.

Currently trying this desktop. It was supposed to die in 2017.

I’ve tried to get into Gnome, I really have, but there’s a mental block there from having things so simplified. I’m sure there’s a joke in there somewhere about old dogs and new tricks…

Edit : Okay I’ve tried both Gnome and Cinnamon… definitely sticking with Plasma…!

I had a hard time with GNOME, but now I slowly get used to it so I guess I will stay there.

I ran it for 2.5 months recently to actually try to use it as vanilla as possible and ended up switching back to Xfce. It’s just not for me, plus, again, I find some of the core devs have a shitty attitude (to the point of me WANTING to dislike their work, even. Openly insulting users intelligence for preferring to use a mouse, for example, is not a way to endear people).

For some of us, it’s isn’t even a preference - it is becoming a necessity (as the mind slowly loses key combos)…

Thanks to Fusuma, I use the touchpad most of the time.

Anyone using LXQt in 2021, thinking about giving this a try. :grinning:

Anything i should know?

I’ve tried so many different DE’s on my laptop, but on my main PC I’ve always had Plasma - my most recent reformat on my laptop got me to install openbox tho… and I’m kinda intrigued.

FOR NOW though, it’s barebones plasma with Polybar!

Eos + Cinnamon looks fantastic and fits the way I use it. I won’t be switching.
