iLok Physical USB for VSTs on EOS?

Wasn’t sure if this will be correct sub category, since it’s both hardware and software.

Has anyone figured out a way to run this? I feel like I’ve exhausted all possible solutions now.

iLok doesn’t work in Linux to verify SoundsOnline / EastWest, iZotope and other major plugins. The physical key is detected, but the security layer isn’t being employed and it’s not being mounted properly, nor recognized within iLok License Manager.

  • Tried using VM to passthrough.
  • Tried using VM to pass via USBIP.
  • Tried cloud based (most VSTs don’t support cloud :angry_face_with_horns: )

Honestly running out of ideas on how to resolve it.
Might just need to take the L and install Windows dual boot (Zeus have mercy)!

The subject is not my cuppa tea. Was curious and found this.

This user runs ILok via wine…

Thanks for the reply. I believe those plugins use cloud or are able to license locally. Some plugin makers do this. Either have a local license file, a login, or a code, instead of the physical iLok key. Having spent 10-15 hours trying to resolve this, I’m not going to spend more time on it.

I could be wrong, but I haven’t been able to find anyone able to use the licenses from the physical key.

Ended up installing Win11 dual boot for now only for music production. Not exactly ideal

Edit: I checked FabFilter, it just uses a code input. I think all of these are generally just that, not actually iLok licensed. The problem I’ve concluded, is that iLok uses some security layers, which doesn’t work through Wine. It requires Windows or Mac to actually work, and it cannot be passed through either. Seems the only solution is for iLok to make a Linux version.
